EXPERIENCE
Kulki Kwaya
May 2025 - Current
Since moving to the Daintree Rainforest in May 2025, I've been holding a weekly community choir. Kulki — the Yalanji word for “cassowary” and the Indigenous name for Cape Tribulation — is both the name and the spirit of the group: grounded, vibrant, and connected to this beautiful rainforest. You can listen to the chorus of a song we wrote called "Accept Yourself" below 😁
Vocal Activation
Aug 2024 - Dec 2024
Last year, I found myself living in the eclectic and creative valley town of Pai, Thailand. Vibrant with workshops of all kinds, I offered vocal activation sessions twice a week. Focusing on playfulness and freedom of expression, I encouraged all sorts of weird and wonderful sounds to help people overcome their initial nerves and create a safe, welcoming space. After warm-ups full of quirky sounds, sirens, and scales, we would move on to familiar songs — exploring harmonies and enjoying the simple joy of singing together.
Casual Choir
Jan 2023 - April 2024
Back in my hometown of Fremantle, I ran Casual Choir and started producing my own arrangements. I would upload a video with the separate parts — low, middle, and high — and have each group learn their harmony line individually. This way, I could support each group as they worked through their part while listening to the video. It was a great way to give them autonomy, build teamwork, and allow more focused time on their own line. Then we’d bring everyone back together and workshop the piece as a full group. The trickiest part about harmonising, of course, is holding your own part while hearing everyone else singing around you!
Since I left WA, Casual Choir has continued catching up and singing together!
